A shared world needs room for newcomers. This update gives property a lifespan that depends on whether anyone is actually looking after it.
Claimable islands: absence timers
On the claimable regions — B1, A2 and B2 — property no longer wears out simply from being left. Instead, each item has an absence timer:
- Wooden structures, beds and land storage boxes: 14 days.
- Campfires and drying racks: 7 days.
The timer refreshes whenever an awake, living owner or permitted keeper is within 20 metres. A base's authorised builders and suitable Crew ranks can keep it, along with the furnishings on its floors and nearby fires. Passing strangers, enemies and allies can't — and logging in somewhere else doesn't count.
Timers keep running while players are offline, but a server outage longer than a day pauses them for that time. Only the people who keep a piece of property can see how long it has left. Ships aren't part of this system.
Safe Waters: weathering
On the protected starter islands, unrepaired campfires and drying racks now weather away over about 12 hours, like other Safe Waters structures. Mend fires with stone and racks with wood using the repair hammer.
Nothing simply vanishes
When abandoned property clears, the contents of boxes and racks drop into a loot bag that lasts 30 minutes. Existing property that had no timer before was given its full grace period when the update arrived.
